La gare de TGV Haute-Picardie est connue également sous le nom de gare des betteraves, surnom donné du fait que, lors de sa construction, cette nouvelle gare était située au milieu des champs, à l'extérieur de toute agglomération, à mi-chemin entre Amiens et Saint-Quentin. Curieusement cependant, elle est au carrefour de deux voies antiques importantes, la voie romaine qui reliait Amiens à Saint-Quentin d'ouest en est et celle de Paris à Arras du sud au nord.
The Haute-Picardie TGV station is also known as the Gare des Betteraves (Beets railway station), nicknamed because, when it was built, this new station was located in the middle of the fields, outside any agglomeration, halfway between Amiens and Saint-Quentin. Curiously, however, it is at the crossroads of two important ancient roads, the Roman road that connected Amiens to Saint-Quentin from west to east and that of Paris to Arras from south to north.
Une fresque réalisée à la demande du Conseil régional de Picardie occupe les 60 m des murs du souterrain. Elle évoque l'histoire du Santerre, cette région de Picardie précisément où eut lieu notamment la fameuse bataille de la Somme en 1916.
A fresco created at the request of the Regional Council of Picardy occupies the 60 m of the underground walls. It evokes the history of Santerre, this region of Picardy precisely where the famous battle of the Somme took place in 1916.
