Pour faciliter aux pèlerins et touristes l'accès à l'abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel, la Compagnie des tramways normands est chargée, à la fin du dix neuviève siècle, de construire et d'exploiter la ligne ferroviaire de Pontorson au Mont-Saint-Michel. La ligne connaît alors un succès avec cinq à six trains en haute saison, hors circulations spéciales (pèlerinages). Quelques trains de marchandises circulent aussi pour alimenter le site du Mont Saint-Michel en charbon. La ligne est définitivement fermée en 1938 et les rails démontée au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.

To facilitate pilgrims and tourists access to the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, the Compagnie des tramways normands was commissioned, at the end of the nineteenth century, to build and operate the railway line from Pontorson to Mont-Saint-Michel. The line was then successful with five to six trains in high season, excluding special traffic (pilgrimages). A few freight trains also run to supply the Mont Saint-Michel site with coal. The line is definitively closed in 1938 and the rails dismantled during the Second World War.
